Surface Inspection

All instruments are visually inspected for material defects, surface imperfections, burrs, scratches, stains, and finishing irregularities. Instruments are checked to ensure a clean, smooth, and consistent surface finish and to ensure that they are free from excess lubricants, foreign substances, and other visible contaminants.

Dimensional Verification

Critical dimensions are checked using appropriate measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment. Measurements are compared with applicable technical drawings, specifications, samples, or approved product requirements.

Surgical Stainless Steel

Etiqaad surgical instruments are manufactured using selected surgical-grade stainless steel appropriate for the intended application.

Stainless steel is widely used for surgical instruments because of its strength, durability, corrosion resistance, and ability to develop a protective passive surface layer.

The chromium content in stainless steel enables the formation of a thin protective chromium-oxide layer on the surface. This passive layer helps protect the underlying metal from corrosion when the instrument is properly maintained, cleaned, dried, and sterilized according to applicable instructions.

Different stainless-steel grades may be selected depending on the instrument design and functional requirements.

Material Selection

The selection of stainless steel is an important part of surgical-instrument manufacturing. Material properties such as hardness, corrosion resistance, strength, flexibility, wear resistance, and edge retention are considered according to the intended use of the instrument.

Heat Treatment

Heat treatment is an important manufacturing process used for selected surgical instruments to achieve the required hardness, strength, durability, and functional performance.

During heat treatment, stainless steel is subjected to controlled heating and cooling processes to achieve the desired material properties. Hardness may be measured using the Rockwell Hardness (HRc) scale where applicable.

Different instrument types require different hardness levels depending on their intended function. For example, cutting instruments may require different hardness characteristics from grasping or holding instruments.
